Digital storytelling! What an absolutely fabulous way to involve students who are normally quiet with low esteem. These children are usually very intelligent with great ideas but are not bold enough to express their ideas and thoughts orally in class or with others. Even those who may be exposed to some form of abuse, this technology may be vital in affording them an opportunity to express themselves.
The more I examine and reflect the more I have to agree with a colleague that indeed this technology provides for use of all multiple intelligences. This is a great tool for the classroom and indeed we budding Reading Specialist
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI am convince that any of us who came in as ‘digital immigrants’ will definitely come out competent or proficient as we are being inclined to climb the learning continuum. As we heard in Mr. Critchlow’s class we start off as a novice then we move top advance beginners and with a bit of forced and voluntary practice, that is our five lesson plans and using it in the classroom we will go on to be come competent or proficient. Who knows maybe some of us will climb the ladder all the way to the top and become experts.
I also totally agree that digital storytelling is a great tool for the classroom and it caters for diverse learners.Robin (2006) highlighted some of the benefits of using digital storytelling. He postulated that it appeals to diverse learners, encourages collaboration as students work in groups and helps add value to the students’ work by giving them to opportunity to feel a sense of ownership and accomplishment as they publish their work.
